Health is Wealth Project
Rural health service delivery is a crucial aspect of public health that aims to provide equitable healthcare access to populations residing in remote and less developed areas. These communities often face significant challenges, including limited healthcare facilities, a shortage of medical professionals, and inadequate infrastructure. Effective rural health service delivery requires innovative approaches such as mobile clinics, telemedicine, and community health workers to bridge the gap between urban and rural healthcare services.
The dashboard provides a real-time monitoring of medical services delivered to rural patients, thereby ehancing the efficiency of the services provided.
Objective of the Analysis
To monitor and visualize the delivery of rural healthcare services, focusing on patient demographics and service utilization. The project seeks to improve visibility into healthcare access disparities across remote and underserved communities.Key Metrics Tracked:
- Total number of patients served (Disaggregation by Gender and Age Group (Youth vs. Adult))
- highlight of facility conditions (supporting narrative for infrastructure need)
Analysis Tools Used
Tool Used: Power BI (Microsoft Power Platform)Features Utilized
- Donut Chart: Presents gender and age-group disaggregations.
- KPI Card: Displays total patients served.
- Image Integration: Embedded facility photos to provide qualitative context about healthcare infrastructure (e.g., damaged ceilings, poor conditions).
- Tab Navigation: Enables switching between Summary, Patient Demography, and Service Provider views.
- KoboToolBox server
Business Impact of the Analysis
Key Achievements Highlighted by the Dashboard:- 70% of patients served were female, with a majority being youth (48%).
- Very low male adult turnout (1%) suggests gender-based disparities in healthcare-seeking behavior or access.
- Embedded images reveal dilapidated infrastructure, supporting the case for facility improvement.
Strategic Value Added:
- Visual storytelling: Combines data with images to advocate for improved funding or intervention.
- Real-time monitoring: Offers up-to-date information on patient outreach and service equity.
- Targeted insights: Enables project managers or donors to understand where access gaps exist (e.g., adult males underserved).
- Use Case for Policy/NGO Interventions: The demographic breakdown and environmental visuals provide an evidence base for:
- Youth and women-focused health programs
- Infrastructure rehabilitation proposals
